It might seem like a long time ago now, but think back: do you remember a time when Kings of Leon sounded like an exciting new band? Back when Youth and young Manhood had just come out and they were just four incredibly beardy young men making music about Spiral Staircases and just searching for their sound? Well, since then, they’ve worked out how to make decent crossover music – something that’s inoffensive to their original crowd whilst being addictive to your Mum and Dad, working out their way around a Mach 3 at the same time. If you too yearn for those simpler days of California Waiting, then you might be interested in Orange County 4-piece Voxhaul Broadcast.
Okay, so they’re not massively similar to Caleb and the boys, but there’s certainly a hint of them there, and definitely in a good way. Kind of like if they’d been raised by Fleet Foxes instead of by… well, their parents, really. They’re yet to relase their debut album, but with EP ‘Rotten Apples’ and a breathtaking Daytrotter session behind them, there’s a lot more to come from these boys. Especially given their impressive work ethic – they recorded and mixed their EP in a single day, and it still came out sounding better than pretty much everything else you’re likely to hear.
